Lavandula (la-van'-dew-la)

Lavender

Tufts of fragrant flowers in shades of purple, pink and white complement equally fragrant silvery gray foliage. Excellent in the herb or flower garden and especially good dried for potpourri or crafts. Attracts butterflies. Lavandula is Latin for "to wash" and refers to its use in the bath. The flowers have long been used to make sachets and potpourris. Also oil of lavender is distilled from the flowers and used in perfume. Companion Plants: Ajuga, Leucanthemum, Roses, Santolina, Stachys.
